Five Years on at Grendon Prison

Feb 4, 2026

After five years, our work at HMP Grendon in Buckinghamshire is complete.

With over 20 phases of works ranging from administration buildings and ancillary buildings to house wings and corridors across the prison site, our teams have upgraded lighting and general and fire alarm systems to ensure the prison is efficient, safe and compliant.

With the help of our wonderful supply chain, our teams have ranged in size from six to 17 electricians with the final phase culminating in the upgrade of the Gate House which controls the site-wide security systems.

Senior contracts manager Richard Harrison said: “It’s unusual for us to have a presence for such a long period at one site. Our teams have been amazing throughout each phase and have faced all the challenges posed by working in a live prison setting. I’d particularly like to thank site foreman Nick Wood, who has worked there from day one and been committed to the project throughout.

“Some of the additional security measures for contractors working at prisons include the need for all tools and equipment to be audited and signed in and out at the end of each day. There is also limited use of mobile phones and numerous other procedures that have to be adhered to in order to work there. Our thanks to everyone that has represented SJD there and congratulations for a job well done.”
